Director's Statement
“The truth is, immigrants tend to be more American than people born here.” - Chuck
Palahniuk, American Novelist
To whom it may concern,
In 2014, The United States of America was called home by 11.7 million Mexican immigrants. In that same year, it is recorded that 5.6 million of those immigrants were unauthorized and undocumented in the United States. These are statistics often slung as weapons for the various rhetorics in the political landscape, but what is easily forgotten is that every single one of those human beings are more than just numbers, and every single one of those human beings has a gripping story to tell.
GodDog, or Los Perros De Dios, is a short film highlighting the struggle of that journey that each one of those 5.6 million people took on crossing the Mexican-American border. Whether wading through the Rio Grande, hiding out through a checkpoint, or taking that terrible walk through days of desert, the millions of tales woven by the people of the border have either been passed down through the generations of those who have survived them, or lost in the annals of history. The story of Goddog aims to tribute those forgotten stories and It’s narrative is one that rings familiar of the difficult path that means life or death to many people searching a better world.
It was a lot of fun listening and learning from the different people affected by this, and being able to impart their own history into our work, and we hope this telling stands strong as a tribute to these generations of stories.
Thank you,
